My Story
Hello! My name is Evangelina Guzman. I was born in Mexico in a city on January 20th, 1962. From a young age, I had a passion for both physical exercise and intellectual challenges. Ballet was my first love, which I dedicated nine years of practice until the age of 18. However, a year before completing my training as a professional ballerina, I made the difficult decision to drop out – a choice that I later regretted.
After that, I pursued my interest in science and obtained a bachelor's degree in pure mathematics i. For many years, I worked as a math teacher in high school until my retirement in 2017. During my college years, I also joined the track team and excelled in running events such as the 1500m and 5000m races. Running became my second passion, and I enjoyed challenging myself with longer distances up to 20k on the road and marathon.
Balancing the demands of motherhood, a part -time job teaching tutoring private students , and twice-daily rigorous training sessions was very challenging ,sadly running was providing me with an escape from the unhappiness I was facing in my marriage. This intense focus on running eventually led to overtraining syndrome and a serious back injury that forced me to give up competitive running.
Struggling with weight gain, chronic back pain, and going through divorce, I found myself at a low point in my life. It was during this challenging time that a life-changing event occurred when my dogs fell into a sewage pit, leading me to take decisive action to save them despite the risks involved: I was drowning myself as well. This experience inspired me to prioritize my physical strength and well-being by embarking on a journey into bodybuilding.
In 2006, at the age of 44, I made the bold decision to enter my first bodybuilding competition in celebration of my upcoming 45th birthday. Over the years, through unwavering dedication and hard work, I defied expectations and achieved my dream of earning professional status in bodybuilding at the age of 55.
Since then, I have participated in numerous pro shows and was selected to compete at the prestigious Olympia Masters event in Romania in 2023 – a dream come true that once seemed out of reach. This journey has taught me valuable lessons about resilience, perseverance, and the limitless potential we possess to reinvent ourselves at any stage of life.
In conclusion, what began as a personal promise to myself has evolved into a remarkable transformation that has brought me immense fulfillment and pride. Through dedication and perseverance, I have turned my passion into reality and proven that it is never too late to pursue your dreams and unlock your full potential.
